Jean Branham McChesney, of Mount Olive, passed away peacefully, at her home, on February 16, 2021, at the age of 84. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was very loved and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Phil; a son, Scott; a sister, Marianne; grandchildren, Chris (Lyndsay), Katie, and Jack; great-grandchildren Noah, Owen, and Ever; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Born Norma Jean Branham, on August 24, 1936, she was raised in Tarrant City. The daughter of a railway worker, she attended Tarrant High School and was chosen as Miss Tarrant her senior year. Jean went on to a successful career as a businesswoman in the Birmingham area. Having personally survived breast cancer twice, she was a spirited and charitable advocate for women suffering with breast cancer.
More than anything, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family. With her straightforward manner, she was a source of sound advice for all matters of life and a compassionate ear to anyone struggling. Those who knew Jean would not hesitate to say that she lived an inspirational life by expressing her faith in God every day. She attended Republic Baptist Church, shared the Gospel with many and was always ready to help lead a soul to Christ. The family she leaves behind fondly remembers many holidays and birthdays spent together in a warm atmosphere and welcoming feeling she created for all those to whom she opened her home. Her impact on the lives of those she knew and loved will never be forgotten and the memories of times spent with her will be treasured by all.
A graveside service will be held Monday, February 22, 2021 at Matthew’s Mausoleum in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, Alabama at 11:00 o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers please direct any donations, in her name to your favorite local charity or organization.
