This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it! Nyna Folsom Cox was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 16, 2021, her 70th birthday.Nyna was born in Tallahassee, Florida to Horace and Nyna Folsom, March 16, 1951. Shortly after graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, Matthew Edward Cox, Sr. The couple relocated several years later to Charlotte, North Carolina. She had three children and was a happy homemaker for 10 years. Around that time, she decided to take some college classes at CPCC. She graduated magna cum laude from University of North Carolina at Charlotte majoring in mathematics with a computer science minor. She worked 31 years for the Internal Revenue Service. She loved her job and her coworkers. She worked throughout her illness until it was no longer physically possible. She was a very creative seamstress, knitter, and could make just about anything. While studying at CPCC, she learned sign language and used her skills to interpret church services and special events. She was a devout Christian and a member of Benton Heights Presbyterian Church. She made it her life's mission to lead others to Christ. This meant more to her than anything else she could ever have accomplished. Nyna is survived by her husband of 51 years, Matthew Edward Cox, Sr.; children Anne Crawfis (Jeff), Cathy Bryant, and Matthew Cox, Jr.; grandchildren Brandi Way, RJ Bryant, Ziggy Bryant, Jay Crawfis, Matthew Cox, III; preceded in death by granddaughter Kelsee Cox; siblings Bill Folsom (Carol), Paul Folsom (Carole), Catherine Ray (Brent), Laura Mathis (Scott), and Dixie Otto (Ken); sister-in-law Mary Ann Oldham (Lane); and a host of nieces and nephews; lifelong, childhood friends Anzila Clark and Hildagae Strickland; and her fur babies, who brought her so much comfort, Punkin, Tybee, Savannah, and Alley. A special thanks to pastor Paul Saleeby for always looking out for the family and going the extra mile and Dr. Gregory Brouse, for his compassionate care. Also, thanks to the staff at Hospice of Union County for caring for Nyna in her final weeks of life. A private, graveside, celebration of life will be held for family at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, North Carolina on March 18, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nyna’s favorite charities: Samaritan's Purse and the American Cancer Society. For whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!
