Royden Meryle Hay was an innovative, hard-working, and devoted man that believed anything was possible. He had faith in his ability to find solutions to anything. Roy thoroughly enjoyed understanding how things worked. He possessed an inquisitive, confident, and rational nature, matched with a quick and agile mind. Roy was a person who believed that he could achieve whatever he said his mind to do.
Roy was born on February 21, 1941 at home next to Assembly of God church, and Humble, Texas. His parents were Gervis Weston and Ellen Ruth Hay. Roy was born in Texas, and traveled throughout various states with his family ministry.
His talent for finding solutions had a positive bearing on Roy‘s family relationships. Roy was raised with two siblings. He had one older brother, Robby Lynn Hay(Bullet) and one younger sister, Rhoda LaVerne Major.
As a young boy, Roy could be found tinkering with anything he could turn into something greater. Roy took part in building Street rods and also street racing. His whole life he was a huge car enthusiast.
After graduating high school in 1959, he went to the Air Force in 1962 as a missile specialist and had an honorable discharge in 1966 as a E-4.
Because he was a quick thinker and adapted to picking up on new things, Roy performed well in college. Theories intrigued him, and he was good at solving complicated problems. Roy earned his associates degree in 1967.
On February 19, 1972 Roy exchanged wedding vows with Gail at the First Assembly of God of South Houston, Texas. Roy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and he was proud of it. Roy always wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable, and was always fed.
Roy was blessed with three children, Christi, Keri and Baylee. They also were blessed with four grandchildren, Baylee, Zackaria, Zahara and Zain. And also grand-dogs as Maggie, Carbon and Zola.
As a born inventor, he could easily create new and innovative systems, and incorporate those changes to bring a fresh approach to any situation. For example, in 1987 he helped rescue baby Jessica who had fallen in a 22’ depth well. His personal initiative inspired those around him. Roy was always good at getting a project started and training those around him to understand further. His primary occupation was a millwright. Roy always made an effort to be a team player, doing what was needed for others and family to get the job done.
Throughout his later years, Roy was an active member of the early Iron Car Club, Rodtiques and Blast From the Past. Some of his prestigious awards included trophies for his cars, such as the Hardluck Award, or People’s choice award. His favorite pursuits were building street rods and various custom work. His favorite vacations included traveling to out of town rod runs and car shows.
Roy loved his best dog friend Maggie Mae and also his grand-dog Carbon and Zola.
In retirement, Roy loved to go with his street rod buddies and eat out at Wendy’s, Burger King and Jack-in-the-Box for lunch.
Roy passed away on March 22, 2021 at home following a brave battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Gail; his daughters Christi Elmardi and Husband-Ghani Elmardi, Keri Cutsinger and his adopted daughter Baylee Cutsinger-Hay; his grandchildren Baylee Cutsinger-Hay, Zackaria Elmardi, Zahara Elmardi and Zain Elmardi; His brother Robby (Bullet) Hay and Wife-Diana Hay; His sister Rhoda Major; sister by law Paula Cutsinger; brother by law Deryle Dumas and numerous nieces and nephews.
