Mrs. B. Jean “Topsy” Daley age 92, of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 22, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, James “Art” Daley and a daughter, Judith A. Daley
Born in Lynn, MA on March 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Douglas T. and Jennie E. (Ellsworth) Waitt. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1945. She lived there for many years, marrying and raising her family. After retiring, she moved with her husband to Danvers, MA for more than 20 years before residing at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA for the past few years.
She formally worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad and for 18 years as a teacher assistant at Christ Child Nursery in Lynn taking several early childhood courses to further her education. She was a devout Catholic and a member of many church groups including the Infant of Prague Guild, Catholic Charities and Our Lady’s Sodality.
She was an avid reader passing along many of her favorite books, especially historical autobiographies, to her family and friends. She enjoyed arts & crafts, sewing and knitting as well as watching old movies, listening and dancing to all types of music. One of her favorite pastimes was sharing a glass of wine with her lifelong friends - Ginny, Molly and Lil – The Golden Girls of Lynn! She was also her family’s biggest fan at all their school and sporting activities, concerts, musical and drama events.
She is survived by her 6 loving children: Jay F. Daley (Deborah) of Marblehead, Jayne E. Botticelli (Martin) of Salem, Mary Jo Nagle (William) of Florence, Jean M. Stickney (Mark Bos) of Beverly, James E. Daley (Robin) of Salem, and John T. Daley (Beth) of Saugus; 17 beloved grandchildren: Jillian, Amanda, and Jessica Daley, Kaitlyn, Meghan, Erin and Nicholas Botticelli, Kerry Jo (George) LaMontagne, Kiely (Kat), Kasey (Laura) and Kelsy Nagle, Samantha (Bryan) Case and Rebecca Stickney, Maxwell and Jonathan Daley, Brittany (Jon Caron) and Ryan Daley; 5 cherished great-grandchildren: Mary Hasson, Madeline Nagle, George and Madison Nagle and Layla Case as well as many family pets and several wonderful nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Fred E. Waitt and Doris L. Waters.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday Aril 10th, 2021 at 9am at St. Pius V Church, Maple St. Lynn MA. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
