Jane L. Briggs-Bunting, age 70, Teacher, University Professor and Lecturer and Department of Journalism Head at two Universities, Author of several books, Lawyer and advocate of First Amendment Rights, former Detroit Free Press Staff Reporter, Life Magazine Cover Story Reporter, People and Time Warner Reporter, founder of multiple scholarships for Journalism Students at Oakland University, Michigan State University and setting up private foundation grants with her husband in northern Michigan where she retired. Jane was also an active participant in the Poynter Institute connecting the varied crafts of journalism to its higher mission and purpose.
Jane is survived by her husband of 46 years Robert, sister Sally, nieces Sarah, Eileen and Cat, nephews David and Giles, grandnieces Jocelyn, Megan, Kaitlyn, Alexa, Sienna, Amelia and Pipa, grandnephew Zachary and hundreds of grateful University students who went onto highly successful careers in journalism and communication as well as the Law of the Press Lawyers.
Memorial service will be planned after the pandemic abates.
Donations to your own favorite charities would be appreciated. Jane’s were Alcona Humane Society in Lincoln, Michigan where her sweetheart dog Amber was from, The Farm at Oatland North on St. Simons Island, Georgia where her rescue mini horse Jasmine is from, and Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac, Michigan were her rescue dog Gidget is from.
No flowers please, just plant some flowers across this beautiful Country of ours. Daffodils were her favorite.
