She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, David, parents Hugo and Ruth Mattson and sister Joyce Keesaer.
Surviving are her daughters Paula Hein (Keith) and Diane Martin (Rich Channell), grandson Cord Martin.
Marie graduated from Eastern High School in 1949, was employed as a dental assistant for several local dentists and was a secretary for WLNS before leaving to begin her life as a loving wife and mother.
Marie was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for 56 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, active in numerous church groups such as the Bazaar Committee, Rose Standish Circle, Board of Deacons and countless hours in food service.
Marie was a past member of the Junior League of Lansing, Edward W. Sparrow Hospital Guild, Petal Pushers Flower Club and a life member of The Garden Club of Greater Lansing. She was also twice President of an Ikebana International chapter in Michigan. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging.
Marie was a wonderfully talented homemaker, cook, hostess and caregiver. She was completely devoted to her family and it reflected in everything she did. Marie summed up her life as “I loved and was loved in return—all the rest is background music.” She read that somewhere and felt it was fitting!
The family would like to thank the amazing management and staff of Green Acres – Mason for their loving care to both David and Marie over the last two plus years. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to Heartland Hospice nurses and aides for their compassionate care. You are all truly angels on earth!
There will be no service. A private memorial and internment will be at the Culver Academies Chapel Columbarium, Culver, Indiana at a later date.
