Edna was born April 14, 1925 in Montreal to Henry and Jessie Ferroni. She will be sadly missed by her two children, Alan Gary, and Maureen Joanne (Colin Matthews). She is survived by her two grandsons, Matthew John (Alissa) and Benjamin Alan (Nicole Hirtz) and four great-grandchildren, Miranda Taylor, Arden Rose, Ian Cedric and Milena Luciana, in addition to Debra Rich, mother of Miranda and Arden. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Federico and Jessie, her two sisters, Kathleen and Helen, and her brother, Wallace.
A woman of many talents, she spent her early years working in Montreal as clerk in her local deli and administrative duties in a Montreal cemetery. After she married Kenneth, her days were spent as a homemaker and caring for her two children until their move from Montreal to Ottawa in 1957. She took pride in her family, and found great satisfaction in artistic endeavours, from oil painting to creative pumpkin carving to building dinosaur snow creations. She ventured into the workplace when her children were teenagers, and so her career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police began. She was employed as a Civilian Member at RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa, working in the Identification Branch for 18 years before she retired.
She loved her time in Ottawa, and will be going home to her final resting place this summer. Interment will be at the Beechwood Cemetery, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Memorial Section.
We will be forever grateful to the staff at Mayfair Care Centre, whom she considered her extended family in her final years.
A private family service will be held at a future date.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Operation Smile Canada, (www.operationsmile.ca), a cause which was close to her heart.
