Joan was born on September 19, 1933 in Cleveland OH. Her father was a salesman, so she moved often during her young life, though spent many years of those years in New Jersey. She started her professional life working at Liberty Mutual Insurance in New York City. She later moved to California where she worked at RCA, a talent agency in Hollywood, California where she met Bert Lancaster and many other Hollywood stars. At a Halloween party in 1959, she met the love of her life Dwight Ronald Timmons, Jr., “Dutch” who she married on April 9, 1960. Her husband was in the United States Marine Corps, so she once again moved often as they started a life and family together. From that point on, family was her priority and focus. After being stationed at many bases across the United States, when “Dutch” retired as a Colonel in the USMC after 31 years of service, they settled in New Orleans, LA, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Joan was known by all as someone who always brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. She loved her family immensely, and they loved her. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, who knew her as “Nana”. Her days were often filled with picking them up from school, attending their sporting events or taking them to get snoballs. Nana was also known by her grandchildren’s friends for always having a green bag filled with candy with her, which she loved to share with them! For most of her life, she was an avid and talented bowler. She competed in many competitive leagues, and her personal high was 236, and she actually used a 16-pound bowling ball. She also enjoyed watching classic movies and could recall the name of movie titles or actors at the drop of a hat. She was a dog lover who always enjoyed the company of her dogs Curly, Sam and Jez.
Joan was lucky to have special people later in life who cared for her during the day as she needed and shared with her many good times and fun. Special thanks to Flo, Jada and Darlene.
