Lola was born on November 9, 1938 in Golden Meadow, Louisiana, to Colonel William D. and Louella Lemkowitz. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1956 and went on to receive a degree in English from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. After graduating, Lola became an English teacher at Spring Branch High School in Houston.
She took a hiatus from teaching to be a stewardess for Pan Am Airlines, a time of world travel and fond memories. On one flight, she happened to see the band director from Spring Branch High, Wade Pogue. A relationship began and they were married July 2, 1966 at the Sacred Heart Church in Houston.
After being married, Lola pursued her career as an English teacher for more than 20 years. She took great pride in her responsibility as an educator and was well respected by her students and colleagues.
In addition to her professional career, Lola found great satisfaction in her love for family and neighbors. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.
Lola is survived by her children, Shannon Pogue and his wife Teri, Tara Pogue, and Meghan Pogue; her grandchildren, Alexis, Lauren, Nathan, Cooper, and Austin; and great-grandchildren, Shore, Quinn, Gavin, Rosen, and Nolan. She is also survived by her mother, Louella; her sisters, Kathryn, Lisa, and Shelly; and brothers, James, Frank, and Kim. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wade Pogue; her father, Colonel William D. Lemkowitz; and brother William Lemkowitz, Jr.
