Sheron Self Kenton, age 79, died peacefully at home with her family on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Sheron is survived by her husband, James Lyle Kenton, of Hamilton, TX and their three children, Kelly Lynn Chacon and her husband Jose Chacon of Allen, TX; Kelene Curry and her husband Michael Curry of McKinney, TX; and Phillip Lyle Kenton of Melissa, TX. She is survived by her eight grandchildren McKenzie Newman and her husband Connor Newman of Dallas, TX; Brody Curry of McKinney, TX; Caitlin Kenton, Elisa Chacon, Caleb Chacon, Regan Kenton, and Isabella Kenton of Allen, TX; and Carly Jo Wright of Glen Rose, TX. She is also survived by her two brothers, Robert Andrew Self III and his wife Donna Self of Hamilton, TX; David Mark Self and his wife Linda Miller of Estero, FL and nieces and nephews Penny, Rob, Lindsey and Mark. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Andrew Self Jr. (Bob), her mother, Jessie Faye Self (Faye) of Stephenville, TX.
Sheron was born on January 17, 1942 in San Angelo, TX to parents Bob & Faye Self. In 1951, her family moved to Stephenville, TX where her parents established Self Boot Shop just off the square in Stephenville. Sheron graduated from Stephenville High School in 1960 and then attended Tarleton State for two years before transferring to North Texas State in Denton, TX. She graduated in May of 1963 with a degree in Business Education. On June 14, 1963, she married James Lyle Kenton and 3 days later they moved to San Antonio, TX where she accepted a position as a Middle School teacher at Eisenhower Middle School. She worked as a teacher for 4 months before becoming pregnant with Kelly Lynn. While Kelly was in preschool, she worked for Durham Business School where she taught typing, shorthand, and keypunch. Jim and Sheron had two more children; Kelene, and Phil while living in Memphis, TN. They were happily married for nearly 58 years.
Through the years, Jim and Sheron moved to Memphis, TN; Richardson, TX; Placentia, CA; Plano, TX before finally retiring to Hamilton. She was actively involved with her church, Ladies Bible Class, Girls Scouts with Kelly & Kelene, and loved sewing and crafting. She enjoyed playing cards, tennis, and camping with family and friends. While living in Plano, she worked for ServiceMaster which later became NorthStar Paper company where she was the office manager for 18 years. Her family and friends will always remember her as a smart, independent woman who loved and supported her husband in all of his endeavors and was a strong partner with him in his career.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 25th from 6-8 pm at Riley Funeral home in Hamilton, TX. A Funeral is scheduled for Monday, April 26th, at 11 am in the chapel at Riley Funeral home. Jim Hall of Gatesville Church of Christ will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sheron’s life.
