Those left to cherish her memory include daughter Angela Marie Reedy; son Michael “Kevin” Angle; their father Michael Kevin Angle Sr.; only living cousin Joanne Meador (Ben) Suma; daughter-in-law Tina Doss Angle; grandchildren Fredrick and Pauline Corbett, Kaitlynn and Jacob Angle, Ian and Aron Reedy; great-grandchildren Kody Angle and Caelynn Walker; sister-in-law Donna Richmond; brother and sister-in-law Gary (Darlene) Angle; brother-in-law Michael (Gladys) Carte; and the following nieces and nephews-Randy, Krista, Derrick, David, Timothy, Jeffery, Michella, April, and Gary.
She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1967. During early years, she was a homemaker and volunteer firefighter with the Sophia Volunteer Fire Department. Through the years, she was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, Women of the Moose and Order of Eastern Star.
Janice was known as mom, mama, nana, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, daughter and friend. However, she was mostly known for her selfless nursing service. After graduating from the Raleigh County Vocational School as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she began her nursing career with the Beckley Veterans Administration Hospital on the long term care ward. She also did private in home care. In August 1990, Janice began to work on a medical/surgical and oncology ward for Raleigh General Hospital.
She was known for her caring bedside manner and patient advocacy. Through her devoted labor and dedication, Janice treated all of her patients like family. She sometimes stayed over to care for others knowing she was sacrificing time with her own family. She enjoyed guiding new employees and students. Janice retired from Raleigh General Hospital in September 2004. Ironically, during her last days, she was still teaching the importance of following patient wishes and end of life care.
Her eyes saw pain. Her hands touched hearts. Her heart felt brokenness. Her feet walked a thousand miles. All for her patients. God chose her to be a nurse and the hospital was her mission field.
After walking all those miles, crippling psoriatic arthritis left her homebound. The crocheting, needle point, and sewing she crafted in former years became more difficult. She then enjoyed visiting with her family, talking on the phone, and watching television. Game shows and Law and Order were her favorite; as well as watching NASCAR races with her son Kevin.
Private Graveside Services will be held in the Tower Garden of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
