Jean was born November 29, 1944 in Houston, Texas to Frank and Mary, growing up with her sisters Radelle and Merry Lynn, and her brother Frank. She graduated in the class of 1963, the second class to graduate from the then-new John Foster Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas. Jean then married Carl Mize and gave birth to Julie. After Carl’s passing in 1990, Jean later married Jacob Kupelian in 2008 and moved to be with him in the area of Shreveport, LA. After Jacob’s passing in 2010 the Kupelians loved and helped Jean, who chose to remain in Louisiana. In September of 2020, Jean suffered a stroke. In the early morning of April 25, 2021, she died peacefully from respiratory infection and complications from stroke.
A devout Christian woman, Jean loved the Lord. She also volunteered as a greeter at Gateway Church. Everyone has said what a kindhearted and loving woman Jean was. Jean enjoyed many hobbies and fun things. In her bright fluorescent tennis shoes, she loved collecting artworks with lighthouses and eagles, as well as teddy bears. She also loved animals, including at various times a dog, cat, and even a pet baby cow. But mostly she loved the company and laughter of her family and many friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Arthur and Mary Helen Harris, as well as her sister Radelle Whitt and her husbands Carl Mize and Jacob Kupelian. Her surviving relatives include her sister, Merry Lynn Rose; her brother, Frank Harris; her daughter, Julie Strain; her stepson Charles Kupelian, and many other beloved family and friends. Jean will be remembered, honored, and missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 30, 2021 at Forest Park Lawndale (6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas) at 2:00pm. Before that, visitation will be available from noon until 2pm.
