Blessed with a beautiful baritone voice, Herb sang with local bands, choirs, and friends. While serving as an officer in the US Navy (Seabees), he met his former wife, Joyce, in Kansas City. Herb and Joyce were married in New Orleans, in 1966 and raised two children, during which time Herb returned to Tulane University, where he received his Master’s in Engineering, Foundation Design. The US Army Corps of Civil Engineers is where Herb’s passion for geotechnical engineering resulted in 40 years of contributions to the science of levee design, locks, and foundations. After his divorce, Herb met Anne, whom he married in 1989. He retired from the Corps in 2006.
He was happiest when singing, cooking, fishing, and, most especially, spending time with family. Herb’s lasting gift to his family is his faith in God, sense of humor, and unconditional love.
