Memorial services for Eleanor Ann Sutherlin “AKA Annie”, 75 of Tyler, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021 in the Chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Ward officiating. Eleanor was born in Austin, Texas June 4, 1945 to the late John Bellis Miller and Eleanor Marie Ferris Miller.
Her siblings are John Bellis Miller, III, born 1943 and William Carr Miller, born 1955. Her children are Christopher C. Carmichael and Monica Ann Donaghy. Her husband is David Franklin Sutherlin.
Eleanor’s father was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corp. before it became known as the Air Force. Her mother and father were married in Sacramento, California in 1943. Her grandparents, (Mamie/Dee) owned a restaurant in Austin called “The Alamo Restaurant & Coffee Shop, located at the corner of 6th St. and Guadalupe.
Eleanor enjoyed music and played the guitar. She was inspired to play by one of her favorite artist, Joan Biaz. She frequently played music she loved written by Joan Biaz and a few others. Eleanor’s father, John Miller, worked for Brown & Root as a financial officer. It took them to places like Ponce, Puerto Rico/ Beirut, Lebanon and El Paso, Texas.
Eleanor graduated High School from South Houston High in South Houston, Texas in 1961. She worked in the airline industry as a ticket agent for Continental Airlines and it took her to live in places like Mexico City/ Longview, Texas/ Houston, Texas and Humble, Texas. She also worked at the University of Texas for 25 years as an administrator of Student affairs and is where she retired in 2012. She was dearly loved by the students and the staff at the University.
Eleanor and her husband, were residents of Austin, Texas for approximately 11 years together and also enjoyed time spent at their lake house in Burnet, Texas on Lake Buchanan. She enjoyed ride alongs with the Austin Police Department as a Citizen’s Police Academy surveillance team member. It was a 14 week program to get to know the ins and outs of the Police Department.
Eleanor loved watching TV shows like Law & Order and a few old Western Movies. She loved Artwork and also did some oil paintings of her own in her free time.
Eleanor and her husband, David moved to Tyler, Texas after retirement in March of 2013 to a beautiful home on a corner lot just east of downtown.
