Senior Sergeant Santiago Paz joined the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Metro Police Department, Harris County, Texas in 1985. He attended and graduated from the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy in 1987. During his tenure with the department, his assignments included Patrol, Backgrounds, Criminal Investigation, CST/Hot Spots, and HOV/Motors Division. These assignments were carried out in the utmost dedication to duty and service. He was a born leader and carried himself as such. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. In life, he was a dedicated family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, son, and extended family members; cheering on his Dallas Cowboys; being an avid softball player for various leagues; BBQ gatherings demonstrating his DJ skills with his vast love of music.
Santiago is preceded in death by his mother Guadalupe Paz and daughter Jacqueline Paz. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maria Teresa and son Marcos Santiago. He leaves behind his father Fidencio Paz, sisters Sylvia (Bruce) Blouin, Diana (Santiago) Cantu, Belinda (Robert) Perez, and brother, John (Letty) Paz; brothers in law, Rumaldo (Dina) Rodriguez Jr., Francisco (Diane) Rodriguez; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was an inspiration and mentor to his family, friends and co-workers who are left to cherish fond memories of love, and laughter.
