Graveside ceremony and interment will be held at 10 AM on Monday, June 28 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas. A celebration of her life will be held directly after the funeral at her home in Arlington, Texas.
Dara was born and raised on the south side of San Antonio, graduating from Highlands High School and studying Journalism at Texas State University. She was an artist at heart and a graphic artist by trade. She held Art Director positions at Blackmore, Inc., Porcelain Artist Magazine, and The Fort Worth Business Press. She moved into development and fundraising once her children were born, working briefly at Saint Joseph Hospital, and then as Assistant Director of Development at All Saints’ Episcopal School in Fort Worth. She also assisted with the administrative duties of her husband’s business, Warren V. Wandel & Associates.
In retirement, Dara worked tirelessly to help improve her community of Arlington, Texas. She served on several committees and boards including the City of Arlington Parks Board, Citizens on Patrol, Arlington Sculpture Garden Foundation, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, and as a volunteer on several political campaigns. She helped develop Friends of Parkway Central Park, a group that maintained the public park next to her house. She loved assisting in park cleanups and planting wildflower seeds there every year.
Outside of her many professional accomplishments, Dara will be remembered as being incredibly intelligent, funny, and devoted to her family and friends. She loved to read, cook, garden, and create pieces of mosaic glass and tile art. In recent years she rekindled her love of camping with her daughter in the Texas Hill Country. Dara found joy in sharing stories about her family: whatever adventure Laura was off on, Lee’s successful business, and her grandson William, whom she adored.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tonya Nadara Agnew and Richard W. Agnew; her brother, Keith Agnew; and her beloved husband of 35 years, Warren V. Wandel.
Dara is survived by her two children, Laura Diane and Warren Lee Wandel; daughter-in-law, Kelsey Celine Wandel; grandson, William Ryan Wandel; nephew, Jess Agnew; and many loving cousins, extended family, and friends.
