On December 15,1962, James married his soul mate, Keleen R. McCawley. They shared their lives together for 58 1/2 years. During this time, they had 4 children, Michael (Emily), Kelli (William), Louis and Danelle (Allen), 4 grandchildren Amber, James, Victoria and Destiny and 4 great grandchildren. James enjoyed spending time with his family and instilled the importance of family to his children.
During his life's journey, he played a role in a film in Italy.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and was a member of the Bass Master Association.
While stationed in Germany, he helped found the German American Race Car Association where he helped build and raced the cars.
James retired from the US Army after serving his country as a Counter Intelligence Agent doing 2 tours in Vietnam.
He was passionate about helping others, especially his Brother and Sisters in arms.
In 2006, he founded the Catholic War Veterans Post 1947 in Nevada serving as commander for over a decade helping thousands of veterans.
James was devoted to his family, his faith and his friends.
He was ambitious and dedicated most of his retirement years to helping the veteran community. He was, undeniably, an amazing man and will be truly missed.
A Rosary and Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 14th at 1pm at St Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church located at 6350 Ft Apache Road in Las Vegas, NV.
Services will be held on Wednesday, September 15th at 1:20pm at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
The Celebration of Life gathering will follow at 3:30pm at Our Lady of Wisdom at 2120 S Lindell Avenue in Las Vegas.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests instead that donations be made to Catholic War Veterans Post 1947 (PO Box 751901 Las Vegas, NV 89136-1901) in honor of James Billington McCawley to continue his legacy of assisting veterans.
