Mrs. Bobbie Cunningham Butler, 88, of Southside, passed peacefully at home on October 6, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, with Dr. Tommy Ferguson and her nephew, Dr. LeVan Parker, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Williams-Southside Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Butler was born May 26, 1933 in Southside, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Irby Butler; her son, William Barry Butler; son-in-law Stan Holaway; parents, Herman and Daisy Cunningham; brothers, Bill, Chuck, and Gene Cunningham.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy B. Holaway; granddaughter and caregiver, Staci H. Thomas; great-granddaughters, Leighton (Matthew) Watkins and Emmaline Thomas; great-great-grandson Eli Gregory Watkins; several beloved nieces and nephews; and best friend, Dot Holaway.
She was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Training Union teacher, WMU Director, G.A. leader, and VBS Director.
She was a homemaker and worked with the Etowah Baptist Association and Essex Apartments, where she was a witness and missionary to many foreign students who affectionately called her “Mama,” some of whom she led to Jesus Christ.
Pallbearers will be nephews, David and Donny Cunningham, Joe Morgan, B.J. Morgan, Matthew Watkins, and George Terrell. Honorary pallbearers are nephew, Larry LeCroy, Dr. Steve Sanders, Dr. Gary Kwan and Johnny Davis.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care, especially Charity Christopher, Brittany Moses and Kelli Wright, for their kindness and compassion.
