Bernadette was loved dearly, is missed terribly, and will always be cherished. Our “Nana,” as she was called by her grandchildren, was an amazing mom, grandmother, and maker of banana pudding like no other could be.
Bernadette was born in Artesia, NM on October 1, 1968. She went to Artesia High School and graduated in 1986. She was well known around Artesia as being athletic, kind and a friend to everyone. She achieved multiple awards and honors during her time as a Bulldog. Bernadette married Ricardo Canales in 1986 and together they had two children Ricardo Jr. and Brittanie. Bernadette moved away after high school and had the opportunity to travel the world due to Ricardo’s military service.
Bernadette went on to obtain her Real Estate License and found so much joy in her career because she was able to help others.
She was a die-hard sports fan and the biggest supporter from the stands. You could hear Bernadette from miles away cheering harder than anyone else!
Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She took every opportunity to share them with the world. The three things that she never lacked were a camera to capture every moment, a listening ear and the world’s best advice.
Bernadette was a warrior who fought and beat cancer not once, but twice! She faced many struggles but kept fighting with grit and determination. ‘Fight song’ was her life song. Her strength and bravery are unmatched.
Bernadette is survived by her children, Ricardo Jr. and Brittanie, whom she shared with Ricardo Canales and her grandchildren Jai’den and Cristiano. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Camilo and Lorenzita Sedillo, Juan and Maria López.
