Irene Martyniak (nee: Saganski) entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Lafayette Nursing Facility in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, Irene relocated to Marblehead in 2014 to be closer to her loving daughter.
Irene was employed as an assembly-line worker for the Best Foods Corporation in Bayonne, a position she held for 28 years. After her retirement from Best Foods, she dedicated 23 loyal years as a volunteer at Bayonne Hospital where she served as Past President and was on the Board of Directors. For many years, Irene served as the Screening Committee Chairwoman. In that capacity, she interviewed and placed each of the new volunteers in their job at the hospital.
As a diehard Giants fan, Irene enjoyed cheering on her favorite team at all 3 Super bowl games that she had the privilege of attending throughout the years. She was an avid reader who enjoyed quiet moments at home relaxing with a good book. Known for her exceptional gardening skills, she could make any garden flourish into a bounty of beautiful flowers and greenery. Irene lived each day with a positive attitude towards life and was always aware of the blessings that surrounded her.
Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew, dear son, Robert, longtime companion, Thomas Scollan, parents, Michael and Stephanie (Senkowski) Saganski, and sisters, Anna Wyrostka and Helen Bednarczyk. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lorraine Martyniak, and many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A walk-through visitation was held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Friday, October 15. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 16, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Bayonne, NJ. Interment was in Bayview Cemetery, Jersey City.
