Born in Richardsville on April 24, 1924, daughter of the late Henry (Harry) Murray and the late Sarah (Sadie) Gallon.
Irene was known for being a very active member of her community being an avid Bridge player, Curling, Red Hat Society, fund raising for the Campbellton Nursing Home, The Golden Girls, MC’ing for the Golden Age Variety Shows. Irene was named Campbellton’s Citizen of the Year in 2008. Irene loved the outdoors either walking, skiing, skating, snowshoeing and gardening in the summer. She was an active member of her church volunteering many hours on different committees.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Jenkins of Richardsville; her granddaughter Sarah (Mark) Morrison; her youngest sister Joan Henderson of Brampton, Ont., and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Bessie) Murray and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband John; one brother, George (Bud) Murray and two sisters Daisy Murray and Marion Mills.
A funeral service will be held at the First United Church on Thursday October 14th at 2:00 pm.
To attend the funeral, proof of double vaccinations with identification card as well as masks will be required.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Campbellton Nursing Home or charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, Campbellton.
