Annie Pearl Brown Howell was born in Randolph County, Alabama on December 2, 1936 and departed this life on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. She was one of seven children born to Millard Coleman Brown and Mary Wilson Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Buster Brown (infant), Dolphus Brown, Grover Brown and C. W. Brown and sisters Magdalene Morrow, Lorene Morrow and Josephine Linaweaver and her precious son, Ryan Howell, who called her “My Sweet Mama”.
She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty six years, Harlon, four daughters, Melondy Snider, Angela Wallace (Steve), Donna Bryan (Mike) and Janet Benson (Craig) and daughter-in-law, Sandy Howell. She was affectionately called “Memaw” by her 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren: Grandchildren: Lexie Bean (Nate), Beth Ruzicka (Pete), Zac Snider (Taylor), Lauren Martin (Matt), Brittany Robertson (Daniel), Andrea Colvin (Ben), Blake Wallace (Heather), Jana Walls (Kent), Jackson Bryan, Aymarie Bryan, Alaina Bryan, Melinda Dyson (Daniel), Caroline Culbertson (Colby) and Victoria Benson. Great Grandchildren: Emma Bean, Addie Butler, Mack Bean, Declan Ruzicka, Nolan Ruzicka, Remi Snider, Natalie Roehrer (Storm), Maya Robertson, Ivan Robertson, Noah Martin, Kendall Wallace, Carter Wallace, Caden Wallace, Audrey Walls, KC Walls, Lynleigh Dyson, Maddox Dyson and Claire Culbertson.
She left a legacy of lifelong devotion to the Lord and her family. She was baptized as a young teen and remained a faithful member of the Church of Christ for over 70 years, 59 of those years as a member of the Church of Christ at Crescent Ridge in Irondale. She was a homemaker and took great pride in the care of her family. She was devoted to her husband first and foremost. She worked side-by-side with him in raising their five children. She laid out dad’s clothes every day for work and had supper on the table every night at 5:30 pm on the dot. She was a great cook especially her biscuits and made sure that her kids and their clothes were clean and neat! She was the disciplinarian in the house and wanted her kids to be well behaved! She was known to tell kids and grandkids to go “pick out a switch”. She also “raised” other children in the neighborhood and across the brotherhood. She had a servant’s heart and welcomed anyone into her home. During gospel meetings her house was always full.
She will be missed and a part of her will live on in everyone who knew her. We have hope in knowing that she was reunited with Ryan and is in a place that we all long to go one day.
A visitation for Annie will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
