Jim served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines. While attending K.U., he was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, making lifelong friends. Jim enjoyed many years in his career in the industrial film business beginning at Calvin Productions, K.C.,Mo. and Centron Productions, Lawrence Ks. Jim’s passions included spending time with his family, gardening, mechanics, Big Band music, fishing, boating and firing up the grill.
The son of John and Helen Bannister, Jim was a devoted Catholic, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Lorie of 59 years, four children: David (Maripat) Bannister, Santa Rosa, CA.; Diane (Dan) Church, Fairway, Ks; Kathy (Randy Endecott) Anderson, K.C.Mo.; John (Harriett) Bannister, Lawrence, Ks.; brother, Paul (Kathleen) Bannister, Charleston, S.C. and eight grandchildren: Chad Anderson; Jacqueline, Anna and Gabriel Church; Indigo Bannister; Logan, Aidan, and Evan Bannister and cousin Ned (Elaine) Sauer, Gerard, Ks.
A visitation at 9:30-11:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., will be held, Wed. Oct. 20, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st St., Overland Park, Ks. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
