Mrs. Bonnie Kay Hathcock Stilwell, age 63 passed away Friday December 3, 2010 in Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte, NC.
Bonnie was born April 15, 1947 in Stanly County, NC, a daughter of the late Mr. Reece Burrin Hathcock and the late Mrs. Grace Melinda Hinson Hathcock.
Bonnie graduated from UNCG and began her career as a school teacher. She later pursued a career as a Health Inspector for Union County where she retired after many years of dedicated service as the Supervisor of Food and Lodging of Environmental Services. In addition to this, she worked her way up to “Manager” of the beauty product company Jafara.
Following her retirement, Bonnie continued her commitment to serving our Lord and community by always helping others in need. Her sister states “there was never a time she came to Bonnie’s home when she did not have a meal or cake prepared to take to someone in need.”
Bonnie married Mitchel Stilwell in May of 1980, a man she loved with all heart, joining their two children in one loving family. These children gave Bonnie and Mitchel five grandchildren. Bonnie played a major part in these children’s lives and cherished every moment.
In addition to serving the Lord and community by helping those in need, Bonnie was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church. She was the teacher of the “Joy” Sunday school class and served the church for 28 years.
It goes without saying she is loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. This Christmas season will be hard on those left behind but as her dear friend said “imagine her joy in being able to celebrate the greatest birthday party ever, that of Jesus Christ.”
Bonnie is survived by her husband: Mitchel Stilwell of the home; one daughter: Michelle S. Helms and husband Jay of Monroe, NC; one son: Dennis J. Black of Petersburg, VA; two sisters: Marlene Fesperman and husband Ervin of Locust, NC, Deloris Rummage and husband Boyce of Concord, NC; one brother: Boyd Hathcock and wife Sue of Concord, NC; five grandchildren: D.J. Black, Trystan Helms, Amanda H. Benton, Amber H. Munson, and Nathan Burgess; also (two) great-grandchildren.
