Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Dorothy Louise Hardy Chesnut, of Gadsden, who went to be with the Lord Jesus on December 11, 2010. Burial will be 3:45 in Gaylesville at Randle Cemetery. The Ministers George Creel, David Murray, and Bo Lloyd will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral Home will direct.
Dorothy's life exemplified love to her heavenly Father, family and friends. She was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi and raised in Hattiesburg. She was an original member of the Dixie Darlings of the University of Southern Mississippi where she received degrees in music and education. She taught at Gaylesville High School and in the Gadsden City Schools where she was honored as Teacher of the Year. She was a beloved member of Gaylesville Methodist and later Christ Central Methodist Church.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The joy of her life was her family. She is survived by children: Robert Webb Chesnut (Vivian), Barbara C. Murray (David), Michael Frank Chesnut (Leslie); one surviving sister, Margaret Hardy Abbott. She will be greatly missed by nine grandchildren: Shannon Fulford, Melissa Garret, Angela Chesnut, Robert Larry Chesnut, Claudia Michele Murray Phillips, Larry Ryan Murray, April Chesnut, Melanie Chesnut, and John Chesnut; five great-grandchildren: Avery Fulford, Dean and Darcy Garrett, Hannah and Paul Allen Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Landers Chesnut and her son of 19 years, Larry Joe Chesnut.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers her family requests that donations be given to the Circle K-Larry Joe Chesnut Scholarship Fund: P.O. Box 227 Gadsden, AL 35901-0227.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 12:30-2 p.m.
