John K. August, 63, owner and Administrator of Woodview Healthcare, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Fort Wayne, he was a 1965 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School and a 1970 graduate of Indiana University. After graduate school, in 1972, he began his career in healthcare as an administrator for Turtle Creek Nursing Homes. He co-founded Woodview Healthcare in 1981 with Charlotte Miller. He dedicated a large portion of his life to the residents and staff at Woodview, and he found a second home with his friends there. In 2008, Woodview expanded to include Woodview Assisted Living and Woodview Memory Care. John was a passionate Indiana Hoosiers and Indianapolis Colts fan. He loved spending time at the lake with family and friends and living each day to the fullest. John will always be remembered for his kind spirit, fun-loving personality, and all of the lives he touched through his work. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Mills) August and their children, Allyson August, Justin (Megan) August and Jason August. He was preceded in death by this parents, John and Iris August, sister, Marlene Stahlhut and brother Kenneth Schmidt. Funeral service will be Friday, December 31, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Aboite Lutheran Church, 10312 Aboite Center Road with visitation one hour prior to the service, Rev. Richard Pagan officiating. Visitation will also be Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
