Dorothy (Young) Atkins, 88, of Marblehead, passed away at the Lafayette on Monday, January 3, 2011. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Atkins Sr. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Gavin W. and Pearl B. (Russell) Young. She was the mother of the late Robert Atkins Jr. and the sister of the late Russell Young and his wife Jane.
She was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1940 and attended Fay Secretarial School in Boston. Dot worked as a clerk for the National Grand Bank in Marblehead and later in the Marblehead Treasure’s Office for many years. She was a member of the Lee Mansion Guild for twenty years, and was very active with the senior citizens groups. Dot was a very gentile, loving person who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her three grandsons, Jason, Thomas, and David Chaimovich; a great-granddaughter, Chloe; cousin, Lurlyne Murray of Swampscott; nephew, Ronald Young and his wife Jean of Lynn; niece, Caroline Hood of FL; a step-daughter, Christine Wilber of Weymouth; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dearest friends, Claudette Nichols, Patti DiFonzo, and Jim Rodgers.
A memorial service will be held in the Dr. Arland A. Dirlam Chapel at Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead on Friday, January 14 at 11AM. Burial to immediately follow the service. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lee Mansion/Marblehead Museum and Historical Society, 170 Washington Street, Marblehead.
