David Allen Hixson, age 60, of Greeneville, finished his long battle with cancer to join both his earthly and heavenly fathers at 3 a.m. on March 25, 2011 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. All of his brothers and sisters were there to support him at the end of this valiant fight.
He was born on Christmas Day, 1950 to the late Celestine Lloyd Hixson Sr. and to Virginia Ruth Mitchell Hixson in Georgia.
He spent most of his youth on his family’s farm in Mosheim. Allen graduated from West Greene High School in 1968.
Allen served our country as a member of Co. C 844 Eng. BN. Combat Heavy Equipment U. S. Army Reserves. Many will remember Allen for his work at TRW and for his talented mechanical skills. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, watching Nascar racing, and antiquing.
Allen is survived by his mother: Ruth Mitchell Hixson; brothers and sisters-in-law: C.L. Jr. and Libby Hixson, Lynn Hixson, Clark and Stella Hixson, and Michael Lee Hixson, all of Greene County; sisters and brothers-in-law: Priscilla and Ray Shelton of Greene County and Marcella and Ricky Morrison of Sweetwater, Tennessee; nieces and nephews: Celestine III and Lisa Marie Hixson, Stephen and Lannette Hixson, Brian and Amanda Hixson, Cindy and Archie Monroe, Jill and Kendall Parton, Tony and Jennifer Morrison, Lynn Hixson Jr., Marty Lee Hixson, Arthur Clark Hixson Jr. and his fiancé Kristen Swaraz, Anna and Terry Owens, Celeste Hixson, all of Greene County, Bronson and Rebecca Shelton of Telford, Tennessee, Ricky Jr. and Tammey Morrison of Georgetown, Kentucky, Jeremy Scott Austin of Newport, Jonathan Richard Austin of Nashville, Tennessee, Patty Melson and Jonathan Richard Hankins of Carter County, Mike Melson and Donovan Melson of Kingsport, and Cori Melson and Toby Melson of Greeneville; great nieces and great nephews: Brianna Nichole Hixson of Tampa, Florida, Claudia Gwyn Hixson, Woody Hixson, Cara Gabriell Hixson, Mark Patrick and Kayla Patrick, Lindsey Marie Hixson, Dalton Anthon and Beth Hixson, Terry Lynn and Ashland Owens III, and Wade Parton, all of Greene County, Jadyn Christine and Bronson Conner Shelton of Telford, Tennessee, Ricky Alan Morrison and Bailee Morrison of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Kyle Morrison and Chris Morrison of Mosheim; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a host of special caring friends, including: Dr. Brad Strange and staff, Dr. Dharmen Patel and staff, Carolyn Justice, and his special pet companion, “Little Bit”.
The family would also like to send a special thanks to the nursing staff of the 3rd floor at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. Sunday preceding the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Rev. Richard Long will officiate.
Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. Monday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. It is requested that family and friends meet at 12:15 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to go in procession to the committal service.
His pallbearers are Tony Morrison, Lynn Hixson, Archie Monroe, Kendall Parton, Ricky Morrison Jr., Charles Parker, Leroy Carter, Doug Tolley, and Thomas Gulley.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
