Leo Blanchet, 90, of Ames, and formerly of Dayton, passed away April 1, 2011, at his home. A visitation will be Tues., April 5 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wed., April 6 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Father James Secora presiding.
Leo Blanchet was born May 2, 1920 in Gilmore City to S.A. and Elizabeth Blanchet. He married Marietta Harrigan on June 25, 1949. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a lifelong farmer in central Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Marietta Blanchet, of Ames; four children, Suzanne (Dale) Petersen of Ames, Robert (Suzy) Blanchet of Santa Fe, NM, Brenda (Dave) Houck of Bremerton, WA, and Jane Ann (Brian) Becicka, of Charles City; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Catharine Van Horn, of Ankeny; and one brother, Bill Blanchet, of Ft. Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Adeline Meyers; and one brother, James Blanchet.
