MSG (Ret) Luther Preston Arnold, 105, died Tuesday in Columbus, OH. Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM ET in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 3770 Hwy 431/280 N., Phenix City, AL with Rev. Wayne Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm ET at the funeral home.
Mr. Arnold was born September 15, 1905, son of the late William Milton Arnold and Julia Chyphres Arnold. He served his country in Panama, Iceland and fought in WWII in Europe and then in the Pacific and the Korean War. He served from 1928-1955 retiring with 26 years as a Master Sgt. Mr Arnold was a member and usher at Midway Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL over 25 years. He credited his life to no smoking, no drinking and attending church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Garland, Worley, Hubert, Malcom, Elmer and George Arnold.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, daughter; Wanda Patton, son; James (Barbara) Beach, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.We will remember Luther for how he loved his family, his church and his mother and for the support he gave her always until her death. A visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2011 from 4-6:00 pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Columbus, OH.
