DEQUINCY - Betty Lou Allen Brown, , passed away Sunday April 8, 2012 at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Brown ran a nursery school and started the first dance studio in DeQuincy,
where one of her many talents shone. She graduated from S.L.I. in Lafayette in 1950 and was married in 1951. She started her teaching career in 1963 in DeQuincy. She taught English and Home Economics at DeQuincy High School until she retired in 1955. She went over and above the call of duty in her teaching. If something needed to be done, she was willing to do it. She was instrumental in giving her students many of the things they would need to live successful lives. Mrs. Brown had a passion for life that carried over into her teaching career. She loved all her students and was loved and respected by all. The full impact of her work may never be known. Mrs. Brown was a past winner of the DeQuincy Civic Service Award. She loved her community and worked very hard at making DeQuincy a better place to live.
Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her husband Harvey E. Brown; parents, Delmas and Elizabeth Allen Word; son, Ricky Brown; and brother Jimmy Dale Allen. Survivors include one daughter, Becky Grove and husband Johnny; three sons, Danny Brown and wife Neicy, Scotty Brown and wife Cheryl, and Tracey Brown and wife Laura; nine grandchildren, Jenny Statum, Chad Brown, Alicia, Ortagus & Matthew Brown, Erica Lewis, Brian Grove, Reese Grove, Jobey Brown, and Jacqueline Richard; six great grandchildren, Kylie Grove, Ella Statum, Gunner rove, Remy Grove, Grant Richard, and Cadynce Lewis.
Visitation will be on Tuesday April 10, 2012 from 11:00a.m. until 9:00p.m. at Hixson Snider Funeral Home Chapel, and will resume on Wednesday April 11 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at DeQuincy United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 11, 2012 at 11:00a.m. at DeQuincy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gloria Youngblood will officiate, assisted by Rev. Richard Teeter. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Snider Funeral Home. The family would like to express their thanks to her doctors, Dr. Jalal Joudeh and Dr. Van Snider.
