Ray was born on January 5, 1935 to Foster and Myrtle Youngblood in Arcadia, LA. He graduated from Doyline H.S. in 1953. He attended Louisiana Polytechnic University in Ruston, LA for 1 year prior to enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in November 1954. He served with the 2nd Marine Air Wing at Cherry Point, NC. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1959, after which he attended and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA in 1961. That same year he married Carroll Houston of Sarepta, LA. In 1962, he attended Officers Training School and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
During his Air Force career, he served in various capacities, including Deputy Missile Combat Crew Commander, Instructor, and Branch Chief for the Atlas and Titan II ICBM missile programs. He also served on the Air Training Command Inspector General Team, was Recruiting Detachment Commander, and Reserve Squadron Commander at Randolph AFB, TX and Keesler AFB, MS. In October 1979, he retired with the rank of Major.
In 1977, Ray and Carroll became Amway Independent Business Owners, achieving the level of Diamond Direct Distributors. Ray touched the lives of thousands across this country and around the world.
Ray dearly loved his family and is survived by his wife Carroll, his children Tanya and Russell and his four grandchildren, Bryan, Lauren, Caroline and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister, Voncille Atkins of Shreveport, LA.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Kingwood Funeral Home in Kingwood, TX. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 9 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 22770 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339 with interment following at Houston National Cemetery. The family invites all guests back to the funeral home for a reception following the graveside service.
