Morris Wayne Alexander, 74, owner of the DeQuincy Flower Shop for the
past 50 years died Sunday night, Aug. 12, 2012, in a local hospital
after a long illness.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 5-10 p.m. at
Hixson-Snider Funeral Home with a 7:15 p.m Rosary, and and will
continue Thursday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The funeral service
will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of LaSalette
Catholic Church. Burial will be in Royer Cemetery in Sulphur.
Morris Wayne Alexander was born Nov. 30, 1939 in Sulphur, the son of
Bruce and Mildred Alexander. He graduated from Sulphur High School in
1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Louise Mary Corner, on
June 4, 1959. He grew up in Sulphur where he helped his family with
farming, cattle drives, and worked at Sulphur Florist.
He and his family moved to DeQuincy in 1965 where, in addition to
owning and operating DeQuincy Flower Shop, he also drove a Calcasieu
Parish school bus, helped with Little Theatre of DeQuincy, was a
parishioner of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church, a member of the
Knights of Columbus Council #8805, DeQuincy Jaycees, Woodmen of the
World, Southwest Louisiana Florist Association and Southwest Louisiana
Nurserymen Association.
He was also a photographer; loved raising plants and watching them
grow and teaching others how to do it; was a creative floral designer;
and enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and fishing.
He was a family man who enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports and
spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Clark and husband Ron of
Ragley, and Judy Alexander of DeQuincy; two grandsons, Gary and David
Williams of DeQuincy; and a very special friend, Yvonne Theriot with whom he enjoyed the remainder of his life after the death of his wife
in 2007; two brothers, Eddie Alexander of Sulphur, Lee Alexander and
wife, Gene of Lafayette; two sisters-in- law, Joe Ann Alexander of
Downsville, Emma Bauer and husband Ronald of DeQuincy; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Mary Corner Alexander;
parents, Mildred Fasske and Bruce Alexander; brother, Charles
Alexander; and two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Alexander and Lucille
LeJeune
