Retired Lynn Police Officer Thomas J. Hines, age 87, of Saugus, died at the Lahey Clinic, Burlington on Monday, October 22, 2012. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Rogers) Hines, with whom he had been married for 56 years.
Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late John P. and Lillian (Meade) Hines. He attended St. Mary’s Boys High School and graduated from Lynn English High School. He lived in Saugus for the past 56 years.
He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was appointed a reserve Lynn Police Officer on September 14, 1949 and appointed a Regular Officer on March 17, 1951. He was a motorcycle officer and then a patrolman. Thomas retired on March 17, 1990. He was a member of the Lynn Police Assn. and of the Lynn Police Relief Assn.
An avid golfer, he played with the Lynn Police League at the Gannon Golf Course and also with the Southwind Golf League in Palm Harbor, Florida. He loved the beach and enjoyed walking. He also loved to read.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three daughters Karen McGrath and her husband Paul of Peabody, Beth Swillum and her husband David of Danville, NH and Joy Cefalo and her husband Joseph of Plaistow, NH, two brothers John Hines and Joseph Hines both of Lynn, a sister Kay Arslanian and her husband Peter of Lynn, seven grandchildren Shauna McGrath, David, Victoria and Dylan Swillum, and Amanda, Taylor and Cassidy Cefalo, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Lucille Hines and Dorothy McHale.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30AM from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Funeral Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 16 Summer Street, Saugus at 10:30 AM.
