November 2nd, 2012 at the Temple VA Hospital surrounded by his loving wife, family, friends and
colleagues.
He was born to Edrie and Mart Hutcheson on January 5th, 1946 in Camden, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Ingrid Hutcheson, who he married in 1985; daughters Shannon Gordon and
Susan and husband Andy Lockhart of Van Buren AR; stepdaughters Beatrix Paden and Jeanette and
husband David Finney of Florence TX; three sisters, two brothers, eight grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.
Upon graduation from high school, he attended Southern Arkansas University in
Magnolia, Arkansas where he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in
Agriculture. He was then accepted to the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee where he
found his true calling and obtained his Masters in Divinity.
Chaplain Hutcheson joined the US Army in 1983 and began a 22 year career serving this great nation
and all of those called to do so. During this service he was stationed with the 54th Signal Battalion - Ft.
Hood TX, 160th Signal Brigade - Karlsruhe FRG, USAG - Ft. Meade MD, l " Cavalry Division - Ft.
Hood TX, Third Signal Brigade - Ft. Hood TX, 293rd Base Support Battalion - Mannheim FRG, First
Armor Training Brigade - Ft. Knox KY and 89th MP Brigade - Ft. Hood TX. He was deployed to
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1994 and 1995, and to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. He loved the men
and women he served with as if they were family.
He retired in 2005 after a long and distinguished career marked by many honors including the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. Upon retirement, Chaplain Hutcheson continued to give his time to many organizations helping those
in need including the Kairos Prison Ministry.
He was an avid gardener and loved to photograph wildlife and spend long hours on his family farm in Arkansas. He also enjoyed smoking his pipe, talking with friends, a good meal and a great book.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 6th at Crawford and
Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Services will be held at 11 :OOam on Wednesday, November 7th at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Killeen with graveside services following at 1 :OOpm at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery. A
luncheon for family and friends will be served at the VFW Post 9192 on Wolf St. at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association (www.alsa.org) or
the Second Chance Animal Shelter (centexhumanesociety.com).
