John (Jack) Stuart Harvey was born to John Stuart and Catherine Harvey on September 30, 1955 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The family moved to Walton-on-Thames, England for 6 years and then returned to Hudson, Quebec where Jack graduated from Hudson High School 1972.
Jack started his 28 years of employment with HSBC in 1978 and held several titles in a variety of branches throughout Canada and the States. On November 5, 1988, he married Rita Budinsky and had two children, Laura and Scott, who were his greatest pride and joy.
In 1993, Jack moved his family to Monterey and was happy to be away from the cold and snow. Jack’s heart remained in Canada, especially after purchasing a cottage at Lake Simcoe where his 10 years of summer fun began. He loved boating, fishing and socializing with family and friends.
The family became greatly involved with the JDRF to help find a cure for diabetes, a cause very dear to his heart when his daughter Laura was diagnosed. Community work was a passion for Jack as was helping those less fortunate. He held board positions with the Salinas Chamber of Commerce and Rebuilding Together and was always available to help local churches.
Jack’s intelligence, caring heart and kind demeanor affected everyone who crossed his path. He had a wide circle of friends and associates and will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Jack is survived by Rita Harvey; his children, Laura (Justin) Clark and Scott Harvey and his siblings, David Harvey, Patricia (Mike) Finnegan and Jane (James) Patterson. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews from Canada, Scotland, England and New Zealand.
A memorial service will be held at Salinas Valley Community Church on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 49 Stevenson St., Ste. 1200, San Francisco, 94105.
