BILLARD, Harlan Thomas - born Sept. 24th, 1926 Halifax, (son of late George and Olive Billard), optician of 45 years, beloved husband, father, poppy and friend to all. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 65 years Blanche (Penney); sons Robert and Brian ( deceased); daughters in law Cheryl and Terri; grandchildren Dawn, Scott, Leanne, Michelle, Shawn; sisters Lillian James, Nova (Gilbert) Gordon, brother Vincent (Anne) Billard, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers George and Lawrence. He was an honorary Elder of Rockingham United church and member of the men's choir. He served 26 years as a leader of 3rd Rockingham Cub Pack., Charter member & Deputy Chief of Rockingham Voluntary Fire Department. and Wildor Park founding fire chief. He was a 42 year member of Bedford Lodge No.104, Master in 1979. Also active and took leading roles in Concordant Masonic bodies including the George S. Wright Chapter No.27, Royal Edward Conclave No.8, The Priority, the Antiquity Preceptory, the Knights Templar, the Grand Council of Royal and Select masters and Nova Scotia Conclave. He was a dedicated Shriner and was Philae Temple jeweller for many years. Harlan lived life to the fullest through his faith, family, community work, volunteerism and circle of friends. With his friends and family he was often found sharing a story or joke, teasing someone and enjoying their company. He loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, woodsman and to him there was nothing better than cutting wood. The good times at Wildor Park were treasured memories. Masonic Service will be held at a later date. A celebration of Harlan's life will take place Monday December 10, 2:00 pm at Rockingham United Church, reception for family and friends following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockingham United Church or Philae Shirners.
