Thomas Leon “Tom” Rasberry, age 76 of Avondale Estates, GA, passed away on December 6, 2012. Services will be held Monday, December 17, at 10 a.m. at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Road, Birmingham, AL, with Reverend James Long officiating. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., immediately prior to the service. Burial will be in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL at 12:30 p.m.
Mr. Rasberry served his country faithfully during his 40-year military career, and retired with the rank of CW4 from the U.S. Army. He was a full-time training officer within a Birmingham aviation unit in the Alabama Army National Guard and frequently traveled to military bases in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi along with assignments abroad in Germany and Panama.
After his federal retirement, he continued to enjoy working with the public for 12 years as a plumbing specialist with Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Mr. Rasberry’s last few years were spent joyfully watching his young granddaughter Sofie grow up while living in the care of his daughter, Julie Moricle and his son-in-law, Wade Moricle.
Other surviving family members are Anne Rasberry, his wife of 47 years (Atlanta, GA), two of his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynda Carmichael and her husband Allen Carmichael (Prattville, AL), and Jean Dickerson and her husband Bill Dickerson (Homewood, AL), along with nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alton Rasberry, one sister Patricia Keene and her husband Joe Keene, and one brother Robert Jerome Rasberry and his wife Grace Rasberry.
The Rasberrys were members of the Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula, GA.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Alabama National Cemetery, Attn: Cemetery Director, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115, which provides gift funds contributing to cemetery beautification.
