Born in Lynn and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Luigi and Consolata (DeStefano) Cardillo. He graduated from the Brickett Elementary School, Lynn English High School Class of 1939, and from Wentworth Institute for machine work and tool making.
He was a Navy veteran of WWII. For 20 years he was a tool & die planner at the G.E. Riverworks Plant in Lynn. He later was a section manager, quality control engineer and an incoming inspector at Honeywell for 24 years and retired in 1986. He received a Presidential Award from Honeywell for his charitable works.
Tony was a longtime active communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister and served communion at Union Hospital, Salem Hospital and Spaulding Hospital North Shore. A member and past-president of the Holy Family St. Vincent de Paul Society, he was Past-president of the Lynn St. Vincent de Paul Conference and former member of the Archdiocesan Board. He was a Knight of Malta, and a member of Knights of Columbus Valladolid Council #70. He served on the Archdiocesan Marian Commission and was treasurer of the World Apostolic of Fatima. He served on the Board of Directors of the Listening Place, and for 20 years on the Board of Catholic Charities. He was also a former member of the Make-a-Wish Foundation and My Brothers Table.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son Anthony J. Cardillo, Sr. and his wife Angela of Peabody, a daughter Marie A. Cardillo of Salem, a sister Mary Pietrantonio of Lynn, two grandchildren Anthony J. Cardillo, Jr. and James D. Cardillo, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9AM from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, Lynn at 10AM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 PM.
