Mona , born January 21, 1913, in New York City, was the 3rd of 4 children born to Isidore and Ida Monashefsky.
She graduated from New York Teachers Training College, during the Depression, when thousands of teachers were unemployed, and was happy to get a job working at R. H. Macys, in the “better costume jewelry” department.
In 1935, she met and married the love of her life, Philip R. Warshaw, and moved from NYC to Miami, FL., where she raised 4 children. Mona was active in Hadassah and other Jewish community organizations, and was a life-long member of Beth David Synagogue in Miami, as well as joining Temple Israel when she moved to Palm Beach in 1999. She always joked that she did not want to be eulogized as a “Woman of Valor,” but by anyone’s reckoning, she was one.
She was admired for her amazing positive attitude towards life and her love of family, and for her wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Howard Warshaw and his wife Laurel Terry, and Dr. Ira Warshaw and his wife Jane, and by her devoted daughter-in-law, Cynthia Warshaw. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Philip, her son, Dr. Joseph Warshaw and her daughter, Staci Warshaw Brenner. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Morris and Charles Monashefsky, and her sister Anne Weg, and her granddaughter, Laura Ann Warshaw.
She is also survived by a large legacy of loving family, including 9 grandchildren: Deborah Warshaw Gould(Tom), Kathryn Warshaw Meyer (James), Lawrence Warshaw (Paige), Tami Lesser Baldinger (James), Gary Lesser (Jennifer), Devon Warshaw, Hayley Warshaw Wasser (Ian), Lauren Warshaw and Emily Warshaw, as well as 17 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ben and Daniel Gould, Samantha, Ellie and Noah Meyer, Sarah, Jessica and Emma Baldinger, Bennett, Jonah and Caleb Warshaw, Lillian, Josie and Rebecca Lesser, Abram and Maisie Wasser, and devoted sons-in-law, Stan Brenner and Shepard Lesser, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
The family wants to thank the 3 women who helped provide loving care and attention to her in the last years of her life: Shirley Annie Townsend, Phyllis Mainor- Hamilton and Marjorie Scales.
The service will be held graveside at Mt. Nebo Memorial Park, 5505 NW 3rd Street, Miami, FL 33126, 11:00 AM, Sunday, January 20.
