John C. Thigpin, 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at a local hospital. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Franklin Etheridge will officiate. The family will meet friends from 1 p.m. to service time on Thursday in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Capt. Thigpin was preceded in death by his wife Billie Lee Tidwell Thigpin. He was a native of Adrien and the son of the late Gordon and Virdle Foskey Thigpin. Capt. Thigpin was retired from Macon Police Department after forty-two years of service. He was a charter member of the Macon Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3, serving on the Board of Trustees. In June of 2012, he was awarded Officer of the Year from the State of Georgia Fraternal Order of Police and honored as the oldest active charter member. He was also a member of Fort Hawkins Masonic Lodge, the P.O.A.G and a former member of the Macon Moose Lodge. Capt. Thigpin was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy T. and Greg Bankston of Macon; his sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Sherri Thigpin and Michael A. and Jennie Thigpin, all of Macon; his grandchildren, John G. and Rana Thigpin, Ashley Thigpin, Alex Thigpin, Courtney B. and Dakota Harp, Justin and Susan Bankston; four great grandchildren, John Gordon Thigpin, Wimberly Thigpin, Cooper Bankston and Tucker Bankston; his aunt Helen Poole of Perry.
