Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late James F. and Mary (Noonan) Welsh. He was raised in Lynn and had been a resident of Boston for over 50 years. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II.
William was appointed to the Lynn Fire Department on January 21, 1950 and was assigned to Ladder 4. He was then transferred to Engine 5 in 1953, Engine 2 in 1954, Engine 10 in 1969 and then returned to Ladder 4 in 1972. After 32 years of service, he retired on February 2, 1983.
A very social man, he enjoyed time spent with friends as well as painting and gardening.
William leaves his longtime friend, Augustus Schnopp III of Boston and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John and James Welsh, Phyllis Sordillo and Katherine Galvin.
His Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday at 12:00PM. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation prior to the Service beginning at 10:00AM. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave Somerville, MA 02143.
