Alma Bernadette Davis Sparkman of Boulder passed away peacefully in her home on February 2nd. Alma is survived by five children, Marie Baumunk, Elizabeth Sparkman, Fran Hughes, John Sparkman and Raymond Sparkman, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of the area, and her brother, William Raymond Davis, of Portsmouth, Virginia. Her husband preceded her in death in 1987, and her daughter, Jacque Woodsome, died in 2004. Alma was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 28, 1922. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and Norfolk Business College. She fell in love with Commander John William Sparkman III of Birmingham, Alabama, a naval aviator, and they were married May 10, 1943. Alma followed her husband in his military career to various naval stations and to his employment at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in 1962. She belonged to the Boulder Business Women’s Association, the Military Officers Association of America and St. Martin de Porres Widows’ Group. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy research and crossword puzzles, and she loved her work at National State Bank and Boulder Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Mass of Christian Burial will be February 6, 2:00 pm, at St. Martin de Porres in Boulder. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
