He attended high school in Burlington Colorado and lettered in football and baseball. He wrestled and was a lifeguard. Darrel learned to weld at a very young age because his Father owned a blacksmith shop. After graduation he joined the army as a welder with his buddy Joe Baber. While serving in the Army he traveled to Germany and other countries. When he returned from the Army he met and married Kathleen Moser and together they had three children Danny, Wayne and Julie. His children gave him three wonderful grandchildren Kaci, Justin and Jesse.
He worked at Coors for 34 years. He started as a welder and was promoted up to a supervisor of the fabrication shop. He was a very loyal employee and his great work ethics were passed down to his children. He retired when he was 55 years old. Darrel always provided very well for his family. He enjoyed taking them on many vacations, camping and fishing. He was a very supportive dad. He would allow you to make mistakes but would always be there to guide you in the right direction. He was strong but gentle. He encouraged his children to participate in any sports or interests they had.
He was the best Grandpa Ever! He attended all of his Grandchildren’s sporting events; plays etc. and He enjoyed videotaping them. He loved to share his knowledge and skills with his grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching them how to fish, weld and fix things.
Darrel had back surgery when he was 55 years old. 15 years later he needed to have heart surgery and another back surgery. He also suffered from COPD, congestive heart failure, and neuropathy. Darrel was an extremely strong person and dealt with all of his unpleasant health problems very well. He didn’t give up and was very determined to keep going no matter how bad he felt. He kept a great attitude until the very end and he never complained. It did bother him to ask for help because he was so independent.
Darrel was a great fisherman and loved to camp. He was very reliable, handy, and mechanically inclined. He was creative and would invent many things such as the trailer for his electric wheelchair that he used while doing yard work. He was always available when you needed him. He was a good planner and organizer. He was an excellent husband for 49 years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and keeping an excellent yard. He always had to be busy fixing things.
We are all going to miss his wonderful Polish sense of humor, and positive attitude. He was truly an amazing man. We will remember him and keep him in our hearts every day. We know he will continue to guide us through our journey until we meet again.
