A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Mint Hill with the Rev. Dr. Henry Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Charlotte Memorial Park. The family will gather at the funeral home to receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Inez was born on May 1, 1927 in Greensboro, NC to David D. Robertson and Connie Cauthen Robertson. She went to the Junior Order Children’s Home in Tiffin, OH at age six and had a wonderful happy childhood surrounded by fellow Homekids. She graduated high school at the Junior Order Children’s Home in Lexington, NC as class president. She married Thomas Edison Austin in August 1944. They enjoyed Homecomings at the Tiffin and Lexington homes yearly, keeping in touch with their Homekid brothers and sisters.
She worked as a bookkeeper with several firms in Charlotte, retiring from BC&H Co. in Matthews. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed cooking and sharing with friends and family. Inez was a long-time member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, and was the card chairman for the Love Sunday School Class for many years.
Inez is preceded in death by her beloved husband and her sister, JoAnne Barrier; brothers-in-law, Dewey Beach and Harold Wilburn.
She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Boggs and her husband, Arnold of Matthews, NC; son, Thomas Austin, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Pageland, SC; grandsons, Derek Boggs of Salt Lake City, UT, Robbie Griffin and Eddie Griffin, both of Pageland, SC; sisters, Frances Beach of Charlotte, NC and Louise Wilburn of Chester, SC; aunt, Ruth Senn; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carillon Assisted Living for their love and care, making her last years safe and happy.
