T/Sgt Harold N. Couch Sr. passed away at the age of 90, at Concord Hospital on March 20, 2013 from complications with cancer.
Born in Salisbury, NH was the youngest son of Eva and Lester Couch. He had a brother Earl Couch and a sister, Irene Knowlton who are deceased.
Harold served in WWII as a Crew Chief Engineer on a B-24, 15th Airborne 772nd Command 47th Wing. He was stationed in Manduria Italy, where he flew 50 missions in the European Campaign. He was a member of the local chapter of the American Legion and the VFW.
He was an avid truck driver starting at age 15 helping to haul cement for the Blackwater Dam in Webster, NH. He later trucked lumber for the war effort with Gilbert Trucking until he went into the Army Air Corp.
Post war he trucked for and retired from Brezner Tanning Co. in Penacook, NH where he earned a safe driver award. He also trucked for Tavern Oil and West Lynn Creamory.
He had great pride in serving his country and was very proud of being a family man. Harold now joins his bride of 66 years, Doris E. Couch who passed last year.
He has two sons, Harold Couch, Jr. and Robert Couch Sr., six grandchildren, Robert Couch, Jr. Scott Couch, Rhonda Couch, Stephen Couch, Emily Couch and Susan Couch. He was very close to his wife’s family who kept in contact and sent prayers and love in his hour of need. And in return, Harold always sent his love and affection and appreciation to Marguerite and Clint Bliss, Ida Fresia Tucker, Mayme Frambach and Charles and Francis Barnum.
A calling hour will be held on Weds, March 27, 2013 from 11am-12pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord. A funeral service will be held at 12pm, followed by a funeral procession to the NH State Veterans Cemetery for an internment service at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Harold’s memory may be made to the American Legion Post 31, 1 Charles Street, Penacook, NH 03303, the VFW Post 1631, 6 Court Street, Concord, NH 03301 or to the Concord VNA Hospice, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301.
