Mr. Melvin E. Rowe, age 83, lifelong resident of Lynn, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Constance (White) Rowe with whom he happily shared 28 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, Melvin was the son of the late Harry C. and Eleanor A. (England) Rowe. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in which he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Star. Upon his honorable discharge, Melvin returned to Lynn and worked as a Custodian in the Lynn School Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. After retirement, Melvin worked as a crossing guard for 14 years at the intersection of Chatham St. and Clarendon Ave. Melvin enjoyed working with his hands, carpentry and building model airplanes and ships. In addition, he was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Above all else, his main priority and source of enjoyment was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Mark Rowe and wife Kimberley of Tewksbury, Michelle Traversy and husband Kevin of Lynn, Kimberley Brewster and husband Scott of Lynn and Christina Bourgault and husband Richard of Amesbury. Also survived by grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Amber and Victoria. Several nieces and nephews. Melvin was the brother of Virginia Tetro of Merrimack, NH, and the late Robert Rowe.
Mr. Rowe’s visiting hours will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Thursday from 4-8PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30PM followed by Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
