Marian E. Peck, 88, born in San Francisco, CA, died peacefully on April 9, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marian lived a life full of adventures and will be remembered as a traveler, historian, social coordinator, and overall amazing woman.
Marian grew up in San Francisco and graduated from Notre Dame High School. She married her husband Bill in 1943. They moved to Redding in 1951 with their son Michael. She worked for McCall’s Dairy and was involved in the Shasta County Sherriff’s Posse-ettes. Marian and Bill moved to Death Valley in 1968 where Marian worked at Furnace Creek Inn as a Fred Harvey girl and took the census for the area in 1970. Marian continued her work with the Furnace Creek Ranch and Resort for nearly 30 years in sales and public relations. Bill and Marian would summer in West Glacier, MT. Marian’s granddaughters would spend their summers with her in Montana in addition to traveling around the United States and Canada. She also traveled around the world with the Elderhostel program. She met friends everywhere she went.
Marian moved back to Redding in 2003 after losing her sight. However, this did not slow her down. She continued to travel with friends and family. She was a member of Death Valley 49ers, The Scarlett O’Hatters Red Hat Society, Society for the Blind, and loved to play cards.
Marian was preceded in death by husband Bill Peck, son Michael Peck, and sister Dorothy Webb. Marian is survived by her granddaughters Becky (and Aaron) Lewis and Heather (and Jamie) Clark, and by her great-grandchildren Jordan & Bradley Lewis and William & Lily Clark.
Memorial services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17 at McDonald’s Chapel in Redding followed by graveside services at Redding Memorial Park. There will be a gathering of friends and family at The Redwoods clubhouse. A viewing is arranged for Monday, April 15 at McDonald’s Chapel from 3-7 pm.
