James Bennett Opper, Sr., 65, passed away April 11, 2013. He was born January 8, 1948 in Charleston, SC and lived all of his life in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach. He attended Robert E Lee High School and graduated from Gordon Military School. James also attended University of Florida and was an avid Gators fan.
James was an avid surfer and built surfboards throughout his life. He was very involved with the surfing community. James was a talented craftsman, known for building many things with his hands and a great storyteller.
He was a longtime member of Chets Creek Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl Reinhart Opper and Carrie Opper.
James is survived by his loving soulmate of 15 years, Helann Sweeney and 3 sons Jimbo Jr., Corey, and Garrett.
A celebration of James’ life will be held 2pm, Saturday, April 20 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
