Born February 1, 1929, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late William Roosevelt and Nina Huffman Campbell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bob” Campbell, of Hickory and a nephew, William Randall Campbell, of Hickory.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont.
Mr. Campbell was a veteran of the Korean War and honorably served in the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 48. He loved his church, his family and friends, watching many sporting activities, and working in the yard. He was the former Public Works Director for the City of Claremont for 17 years and has been retired for 22 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Hedrick Campbell, of the home; son, Matt Duran Campbell and wife, Tina of Newton; daughter, Vickie Campbell Hicks of Claremont; sister-in-law, Ramona Campbell, of Hickory; four grandchildren, Jason Killian of Conover, Brandy Hicks of Newton, Adam Campbell of Conover, Molly Newton of Huntersville; one great granddaughter, Taylor Killian of Conover.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 4:30 p.m., at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont with Reverend Paul Christ and the Reverend Dr. Gary Haddock officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont.
